Planning Team

Planning Team (PT) is The Detroit Partnership’s internal leadership that works on seven sub-teams to execute DP’s mission through our service-learning opportunities. Joining Planning Team is the first step into a larger leadership role in our organization!

The whole Planning Team meets once a week and all PT members are expected to attend. PT members are also expected to attend all major events. In addition, each sub-team has their own meetings.

Community Team: This team acts as a liaison between our weekly community partners and DP, helping with recruitment, education, and retention of weekly volunteers. DP offers around 15 weekly programs per semester that include after-school programs, K-12 tutoring, & adult education. Members of our Community Team are Volunteer Coordinators. Meaning, they oversee their own specific weekly program and its volunteers.

Major Events Team: This team plans and executes major events, such as RCDC Day, One Stop Shop, and DP Day. RCDC is a service-learning event for PT members to participate in the environmental revitalization of Detroit with our community partner, RCDC. For One Stop Shop, PT raises between $2,000-3,000 to buy winter clothing, toys, appliances, etc. for hundreds of families in Detroit. On the actual day, PT members act as “personal shoppers” for the families as they pick up items during the holiday season. DP Day is the largest service-learning event at the University of Michigan, involving 700 to 1000 volunteers per year. Students work at 20+ different sites across Detroit on community revitalization projects, such as weeding and gardening.

Education Team: This team creates a curriculum for DP’s volunteers and PT members to aid in educating them on DP’s mission of service-learning. The Education team develops educational and reflection activities for Volunteer Coordinators and volunteers during their weekly service in the City of Detroit. They think of ways to take single service days like major events and promote DP’s mission of service-learning and building connections with the community members.

Finance Team: This team supports DP’s finances by applying for funding and grants, and expanding sponsorships and fundraising efforts. The Finance Team cultivates different team budgets and ensures that DP is staying within our budget. They also work with different teams on their fundraising initiatives and develop new ways to fundraise.

Marketing Team: This team markets all DP related events and initiatives, such as DP Day, OSS, weekly programs, etc. through both digital and in-person mediums. The Marketing Team is in charge of updating DP’s website and social media along with designing flyers and graphics. This team expands collaborations with other student organizations and community groups to spread DP’s mission on-campus. Additionally, this team documents events through interviews and photos.

Internal Team: This aids DP’s internal operations by planning our group Planning Team meetings. The Internal Team invites speakers and creates presentations on the City of Detroit. This team also plans social events thereby strengthening internal connections between teams.
